Most Frequently Asked Questions at Nestling Tours
Will my non-birding spouse enjoy themselves on these
trips?
Our goal is to design a trip which meets your family's vacation needs.
  • In some cases, the non-birding spouse will enjoy the locations where our
birding activities are focused.  Most everyone enjoys Costa Rica and the
mountains of southeast Arizona (for example).
  • The non-birding spouse can go do non-birding activities.  For example in
Mexico, the non-birding spouse could go enjoy the beach or go explore
nearby Mayan ruins.  In southeast Arizona, they could go golfing.
  • Though most birders want to spend the whole day and whole trip birding,
the whole day or whole trip does not have to be spent birding.  Our trips
can be (and often should be) balanced with other family vacation
opportunities when the family can spend time alone together.
  • However, do not feel like your non-birding spouse has to come along just
to take care of your children.  We want to include children in our family
birding treks, and our Outdoor Instructors are available to enhance the
outdoor experience of the children with recreation and education.  Though
we think they can have a good time with a bunch of birders, they may enjoy
some time home alone without the kids.

What lodging options are available?  Can we go camping?
Our goal is to design a trip which meets your family's vacation needs.
  • A wide range of lodging options are available on our anytime tour trips to
Northern California, Colorado, and the United Kingdom.
  • Camping is possible in California and Colorado.   Our Ted Floyd trip to
Colorado has camping integrated into the trip plan (though we can find a
local motel for you as well).
  • In the case of our planned trips, lodging is often limited to where we are
planning to stay so as to get group rates on lodging.

What if our children want to do something else besides
birding?
Our goal is to design a trip which meets your family's vacation needs.
  • In some cases, the children will enjoy the family bird treks included in our
planned trips.  We will often have Outdoor Instructors along to help children
learn more about birding and the outdoors.  The Outdoor Instructors can
also help with children moving at a different pace than the main birding
    group.
  • Our planned trips also include non-birding activities for children.  Please
check out our trip to Southeast Arizona where we will go explore nearby
    caves (for example).
  • Our anytime trips have tools to help you plan non-birding activities for your
family.  Please check out our Northern California trip planner for some
    examples.
  • Though most birders want to spend the whole day and whole trip birding,
the whole day or whole trip does not have to be spent birding.  Our trips
can be (and often should be) balanced with other family vacation
opportunities when the family can spend time alone together.
